Bethlehem, PA – Three Mountain Hawks scored in double figures as Lehigh remained perfect in Patriot League play with a 72-59 victory over visiting Colgate at Stabler Arena on Friday night.
The win improves Lehigh’s record to 12-5 overall and 4-0 in the league.
The setback drops the Raiders to 4-13 overall and 0-4 in Patriot League play.
In the first half, the Mountain Hawks ran off to a 14-point lead on a Mary Hynoski jumper with to go in the half. The Raiders battled back, and the Lehigh lead was trimmed to eight at halftime, 37-29.
Hynoski was one of three Mountain Hawks to score eight first half points, as Jessica DePalo and Sara Ellis each added eight apiece. As a team, the Mountain Hawks got a number of transition baskets (12 fast break points) thanks to ten steals.
Carli Toliver connected on a first half three point field goal, the 148th of her Lehigh career. That bucket pushes Toliver past Cat Nicholson '03 for sole posession of first place on Lehigh's all-time three point field goals list.
Lehigh controlled the tempo for much of the second stanza, building a 19-point lead at the mark. Colgate briefly cut the Lehigh lead to single digits, but the Mountain Hawks were too much in the end.
Ellis led all scorers with 24 points. DePalo added 13 points and eight rebounds and Jenny Callan added 12 points and eight rebounds in the Mountain Hawks win.
Colgate out-rebounded Lehigh 39-35 for the game, and the Raiders were paced by 12 points apiece from Emily Braseth and Chigozie Ozor.
Lehigh will be right back in action on Sunday, as the Mountain Hawks host Bucknell at Stabler Arena for Mascot Mania. Game time is set for , and children under 12 years of age will be admitted free.
