Lehigh completes Jersey sweep with win over Rutgers

New Brunswick, NJ – Lehigh made it a Saturday sweep of the Garden State as the Mountain Hawks took nine out of ten bouts in a 40-4 rout of Rutgers at the College Avenue Gymnasium. Lehigh won four matches by fall and two more by major decision in its conference opener as the Brown and White improves to 7-1 on the season, 1-0 in the EIWA.
Rutgers falls to 0-1 on the season.
The Mountain Hawks were able to pour it on from the very start. A major decision from John Stout followed by pins by Jeff Santo and Cory Cooperman put the Mountain Hawks up 16-0 after three bouts.
Lehigh would also get pins from Troy Letters and Jon Trenge, while Matt Anderson, Derek Zinck, David Helfrich and Paul Weibel all picked up decisions for the Brown and White. Andy Roy picked up the Scarlet Knights lone victory with a major decision over Brian LaMay at 174.
The Mountain Hawks now have a month off to prepare for the second half of their season. Lehigh will return to action on Friday January 7, when the Mountain Hawks visit Penn State at 7:30. The Mountain Hawks and the Nittany Lions have already met once this season with the Brown and White winning 24-15 in the finals of the Pennsylvania State Dual Championships.
