Ellis shoots Lehigh to big win over Princeton

– Behind a career high five three pointers from sophomore Sara Ellis Lehigh defeated Princeton
in its home opener by a score of 64-51 at Stabler Arena on Tuesday evening.
The Tigers hoisted 27 three-point attempts on the night, connecting on just five of them. Lehigh junior Jenny Callan added ten points and three rebounds for the Brown and White who improve to 2-1 on the young season, while the Tigers fall to 1-1.
Lehigh came out hot hitting 46 percent of its shots in the first half en route to a 35-17 lead at the intermission. The Mountain Hawks connected on 60 percent of their shots from beyond the arc and held Princeton to just 33 percent shooting in the first twenty minutes of action. Callan scored all ten of her points in the first half on five of six shooting, while Ellis connected on two three-pointers and one free throw for seven points.
The second half saw much of the same as Lehigh continued to shoot well and pressured Princeton into many difficult shots. Princeton his just 23 percent of its shots from downtown in the second half, but did manage to score 34 points to the Mountain Hawks 29. Ellis hit three three- pointers en route to nine points. Sophomore Adrienne Blount scored nine points for Lehigh, while Ellis and Chantal St. Laurent handed out four assists apiece for the Mountain Hawks.
Princeton was led in scoring by Katy Digovich with 15 points on 6 of 12 shooting and Rebecca Brown added 14 tallies on 7 of 10 shooting for the Tigers.
Lehigh returns to action on Monday, November 29 when the Mountain Hawks travel to Philadelphia to take on St. Joseph’s. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00.
