Villanova uses quick start to beat Lehigh

Posted: February 29, 2004

– The Mountain Hawks played well for the last three periods on Sunday, but Villanova’s 4-1 edge in the first period was too much for them to overcome.  Lehigh (0-2) outscored the Wildcats (2-0) over the last three periods 5-4, but could not muster enough offense to get the win.

An early Villanova goal gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead, but Andrew Lucas tied it for the Mountain Hawks at 1-1 soon thereafter.  But the Wildcats would score four unanswered after that to get up 5-1 before Lehigh could score again.

Greg Morin scored a goal at 11:36 of the fourth quarter to get Lehigh within 6-4, but Villanova responded with another goal to put the game out of reach.

Lehigh was led by Morin’s 3 goals, and David Walsh, Lucas, and David Gaunt scored for the Mountain Hawks as well. Matt Starker led Villanova with 3 goals in the game.

Lehigh returns to the field on March 6 with a trip back to Philadelphia to take on St. Josephs.  Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
