Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh continued to roll Saturday afternoon at the Lewis Tennis Center, going 2-0 on the afternoon against Seton Hall and Towson. In the first match, the Mountain Hawks jumped out early to a 4-0 lead before holding off the Pirates 4-3. Then in the second match, Lehigh flexed their muscles taking every single match to win 7-0. With the victories, Lehigh improves to 4-1 on the season. Seton Hall falls to 2-5, while Towson falls to 0-2.
In the match against Seton Hall, the Mountain Hawks took the doubles point thanks to wins from captains Kristen Nowicki and Rachel Samson 8-4 over Kimberly Barfuss and Catalina Isaza and Gwen Dwyer and Starr Foster over Viviana Figueroa and Lorell Zamot 9-8 (5).
In singles, Nowicki and Samson won again, with Nowicki beating Barfuss in straight sets (6-3, 6-1) and Samson defeating Figueroa in three (6-2, 4-6, 6-4). When Dwyer took down Zamot in straight sets (6-2, 7-5), Lehigh clinched the match. Seton Hall did rally to win the last three matches to make the final closer. Seton Hall fell to 1-5 on the season with the loss.
Against Towson, the Mountain Hawks started off strong and never looked back, winning each match decisively. In three doubles sets, Lehigh dropped just three games. In singles play, Towson was only able to win a single set, as Lindsay Long defeated Kelly Parsons 5-7, 6-1 (10-6) in the third flight matchup. Dwyer and Maria Anorga gave Lehigh’s captains a rest, and held their own, each defeated their opponents by 6-0, 6-1 tallies.
Seton Hall defeated Towson 5-2 in the other match of the day.
Lehigh returns to action on February 28 as Delaware comes to town for an 11:00am match.
