Annapolis, MD – Head coach Greg Strobel picked up his 100th career win in style as Lehigh (10-3, 1-0 EIWA) shutout Navy (5-6, 1-1 EIWA) on Friday night, 37-0. Strobel’s record now stands at 100-47-1, making him the fastest Lehigh coach to reach the century mark.
The match started at 125, where junior Mario Stuart got Lehigh on the board first with a 7-3 decision. Freshman Cory Cooperman, No. 8 at 133, followed with a 17-1 technical fall to stretch the Lehigh lead. The Mountain Hawks did not look back, taking the final eight bouts as well on their way to their second shutout of the season. After consecutive decisions by senior Tristan Boyd, sophomore Aaron Kling, and freshmen Derek Zinck and Troy Letters, junior Brad Dillon, No. 8/9, scored a major decision at 174, 18-6. After a decision by freshman Travis Frick at 184, junior All-American Jon Trenge picked up a 17-3 major decision at 197. Junior heavyweight Joe Sahl ended the match on a high note, winning by fall at 2:46.
"I was really pleased with the way our guys wrestled," Strobel said. "We hustled in every match. Our guys just kept trying to build the leads they got, and that was the difference in the match."
The Mountain Hawks return to action tomorrow with a pair of duals against Brown and Harvard. Lehigh faces the Bears at 1:00, followed by Harvard at 3:00. The Harvard match will be broadcast live on both the Lehigh website at www.lehigh.edu and on 1230 AM, The Sports Monster. The match will also air live on Service Electric Cable TV-2. Fox Sports Pittsburgh will re-broadcast on Sunday at 1:00, and that showing may be found on DirecTV, as well, on channel 628.
