Mountain Hawks soar over Panthers

Imperial, PA – No. 8 Lehigh (5-3) defeated Pittsburgh (1-2) by a final of 26-15 on Monday evening at West Allegheny High School. The Mountain Hawks won the final five bouts to gain a split on the western Pennsylvania road trip.
Lehigh quickly jumped out to a 6-0 lead as junior heavyweight Joe Sahl pinned Travis Shirley at heavyweight. The Panthers came back to take a 15-9 lead, winning each of the next four bouts. At 157, freshman Derek Zinck got the Mountain Hawks back into the win column with a 5-2 decision. Classmate Troy Letters closed the gap to 15-14 when he scored a technical fall at 165 over Matt Catullo. Junior co-captain Brad Dillon grabbed the lead back for Lehigh with a 5-3 decision at 174. Frosh Travis Frick made it four in a row for the Mountain Hawks and junior All-American Jon Trenge finished the evening off with a decision at 197.
"Our guys did a nice job recovering from yesterday’s performance," head coach Greg Strobel said. "It’s not easy to go on back-to-back days, and our guys fought hard and tried some things."
Lehigh returns to action this weekend when it travels to the Virginia Duals in Hampton, Virginia.
