Mountain Hawks storm past Cyclones

Ames, IA – No. 7 Lehigh (1-1, 0-0 EIWA) stepped up to win the night’s last five bouts, lifting the Mountain Hawks to their first ever victory over No. 11 Iowa St. (1-2, 0-0 Big 12) in Ames, Iowa by a final of 21-12.
Junior Joe Sahl got the night started off right, defeating nationally ranked heavyweight foe Wade McLeod 10-3 in the first bout. The Mountain Hawks then lost the next four matches, before freshman Derek Zinck scored a technical fall at 157 to close the match score to 12-8. Fellow frosh Troy Letters needed riding time to defeat Nick Passolano at 165, and Brad Dillon grabbed a decision at 174 to give the Mountain Hawks a 14-12 advantage. Freshman Travis Frick gained another riding time win for the Mountain Hawks at 184. Junior Jon Trenge, No. 2 at 197, finished the evening with a major decision.
Lehigh will try to make it a clean sweep on its Midwest swing when the Mountain Hawks take on No. 2 Iowa on Sunday at 2:00 EST. The game will be broadcast by the Iowa website. A link to the broadcast can be found on the Lehigh website at www.lehigh.edu.
