Lehigh's winning streak came to an end Saturday at the 2002 Cliff Keen/NWCA National Duals at Ohio State. In the first round of duals Greg Strobel's grapplers could not overthrow third ranked wrestling powerhouse, Oklahoma and fell 30-9. The Sooners won seven of ten bouts to earn their ninth straight win overall and their 11th consecutive win against the Brown and White.
Lehigh's 20th ranked Mario Stuart and Oklahoma's second ranked Matt Ridings got things started at 125. Stuart was unable to upset Ridings and dropped the first bout of the match 8-3.
At 133 pounds Lehigh's Dan Hyman was overpowered by second ranked Witt Durden. Durden pinned Hyman in 31 seconds to put the Sooners up 9-0.
At 141 Tristan Boyd was unable to put points on the board for the Brown and White as he fell 10-4 to Oklahoma's Nate Parker.
16th ranked Mike Pirozzola was forced to give up a win at 149, due to any injury he suffered during the bout. Pirozzola earned the first take down and an escape before being placed in an awkward position where he popped his ribs. Pirozzola will be forced to sit out the remainder of the duals and will not return to the mat for at least two weeks. Troy Minarovic will step in for the injured Pirozzola.
At 157 Warren Stout fell 2-0 to 11th ranked Doug Cieleski, his former high school classmate. This is ends Stout's 3-0 win streak.
Fourth ranked Chris Vitale gave Lehigh its first points of the dual, scoring an impressive 11-6 decision over fifth ranked Robbie Waller. Vitale gave up the first take down before going on to win 9-4 throughout the remainder of the bout. Vitale remains undefeated in duals with ten wins.
At 174 Brad Dillon upset 14th ranked Michael Barger. Dillon tabbed a 3-1 decision over Barger to give the Mountain Hawks six.
Tenth ranked Rob Rohn upset second ranked Josh Lambrecht 4-2. Last year Lambrecht upset Rohn 11-4 at Nationals. In search of redemption Rohn used a double leg tackle and a near fall in the last 30 seconds of the bout to capture the win.
Second ranked Jon Trenge lost his second bout this season. The Sooner's Tom Grossman upset Trenge with a 10-7 decision. Trenge now stands at 18-2.
