Posted: September 25, 2003
After picking up a pair of wins in the first two matches of the day, twelfth ranked Lehigh fell to seventh ranked Ohio State by a final count of 25-19. The Brown and White had strong efforts by several wrestlers.
At 157, Warren Stout rebounded from a 13-3 major decision loss against Ohio University’s Ryan Smith to pin Ohio State’s Josh Jansen in 4:40. The unranked Stout downed the 10th ranked Jansen to gain Lehigh’s first points of the match. Stout’s momentum carried over to the next three bouts. Senior All-American Chris Vitale, ranked sixth, scored a major decision victory over the 10th ranked John Clark of the Buckeyes at 165 lbs. In the 174 lb. weight class, sophomore Brad Dillon won a 3-1 decision over #17 Anton Talamantes to tie the schools at 13. Mario Stuart notched a 9-5 decision over the Buckeyes’ Jesse Leng for the Mountain Hawks’ only other victory of the match. The win made Stuart a perfect 3-0 on the day.
Head Coach Greg Strobel was pleased with his team’s overall performance. "We had great performances from several wresters. I’m very proud of Warren Stout’s victory, especially going up against a ranked opponent. Rob Rohn wrestled his best bout of the season despite being injured," said Strobel.
The loss dropped Lehigh’s record to 3-2 on the season, while Ohio State climbed to 4-0. Lehigh will return to action January 4th, when they travel to Ann Arbor to face Michigan. The first grapplers will hit the mat at 7:00 pm.
