Trenge wins title in Las Vegas

Lehigh had a school-best six placewinners at the Las Vegas Invitiational over the weekend including Jon Trenge, who became the first Lehigh wrestler in 12 years to win an individual regular season championship.
The Mountain Hawks finished third in the team standings with 121 ½ points. Michigan, the third-ranked team in the nation won the event. West Virginia was third.
Trenge defeated top-ranked Muhammad Lowal of Central Oklahoma 3-2 in the 197 title bout, becoming the first Lehigh wrestler to win an individual title since Matt Ruppel in 1989.
Chris Vitale advanced to the 165-pound finals but lost 7-6 to West Virginia’s Tom McMath.
Mike Pirozzola won the third place bout at 149, defeating, defeating Michigan’s Mike Kulzcycki 9-7.
