Lehigh loses close one to No. 22 Villanova

Posted: September 21, 2003

Villanova, PA – Lehigh (0-1-0, 0-0-0 Patriot League) began its season Friday night, losing a hard-fought game at 22nd ranked Villanova (1-0-0).
In an evenly played game, no one was able to puncture the net in regulation. Then, with 7:19 left in the first overtime, Patricia Misciagna put a ball through a crowd and won the game for the Wildcats.
Coach Manny Oudin said All-League goalie Erin Iwaskiewicz played well, and that the goal was not her fault. "She played great, and made a few saves when we needed them," said Oudin. "The last goal was from 25 yards away, and because of the players in front of the goal she never saw it."
Oudin said he was disappointed with the loss, but proud of his team’s effort. "We had some chances, they had some chances, and I thought we fought the whole game. I think it gave us a good indication of where we are, and I think we will have some confidence going on into the season."
The season will continue on Sunday with Lehigh’s first home game of the season, a match with St. Francis (PA). Game time is set for 3:00, and the game will be broadcast on the Lehigh website at www.lehigh.edu.
