Mountain Hawks fall in Easton

Easton, PA – Lafayette built a 20-point first half lead, and Lehigh was unable to recover as the Leopards downed the Mountain Hawks by a score of 86-68 at the Kirby Sports Center. The loss drops the Mountain Hawks to 16-9 overall and 8-4 in the Patriot League. Lafayette goes to 12-13 on the season, 6-6 in league play. The Mountain Hawks were led in scoring by senior Matt Logie with 19 points, including five three-pointers.
Lehigh got off to a fast start and led 17-11 after senior Zlatko Savovic hit a free throw with 11:30 remaining in the first half. But from that point on, the Leopards would go on a 36-11 run and lead 47-28 heading into the locker room. Logie and freshman Mitch Gilfillan led the Mountain Hawks with nine first half points apiece.
Lafayette built its lead to as many as 30 points in the second half and Lehigh could never get any closer than 19. The Mountain Hawks struggled with their shooting all day long and finished up with a 33% clip for the game, compared to Lafayette shooting a sizzling 56%.
Lehigh senior Matt Crawford had a very solid game with 16 points and 15 rebounds and Gilfillan finished with 15 points, all on three-pointers. Crawford’s 15 rebounds matched a career best, and Gilfillan set a personal scoring best for the second consecutive game. Justin DeBerry led Lafayette in scoring with 22 points on the afternoon to go with three assists, and was one of six Leopards in double figures on the afternoon.
Lehigh returns to action on Friday when the Mountain Hawks host Colgate at Stabler Arena. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
