Worcester, MA – Lehigh fell back into a first place tie with Holy Cross Friday evening, falling 63-39. With the setback, the Mountain Hawks drop to 13-6 overall, 5-1 in the Patriot League. The loss also halts the team’s winning streak at seven games. The win pushes the Crusaders record to 15-4 overall, 5-1 in the league.
The Mountain Hawks trailed 31-16 at half and were manhandled by the Crusaders defensively. Holy Cross out rebounded Lehigh 26-10 over the first 20 minutes. Patrick Whearty posted 12 first half points as the Crusaders held the Mountain Hawks scoreless for more than six minutes.
Zlatko Savovic scored Lehigh’s only field goals of the first half, posting 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting.
In the second half, each team struggled early on. The Mountain Hawks went the first nine minutes of the half without a field goal, however, mid way through the half, the squad went on an 8-0 run.
For the game Lehigh shot 29%, going 13-of-45 from the floor, while Holy Cross managed 47% on 27-of-58 shooting. Savovic finished the game as the team’s top performer, posting 16 points, four rebounds, one block and two steals. Mike Cowgill tallied six points, Matt Logie managed a season and career low two points, and Rah Tiah, in his first game back from injury posted five points.
The Crusaders had three players in double figures and were led by Patrick Whearty. Whearty ended the game with 21 points, 11 rebounds, five blocks, and two assists. Also in double digits for the Crusaders was Jave Meade with 16 points and John Hurley with 11 points.
