Lehigh plays hard, but loses double-dip

Beaumont, TX – Lehigh played valiantly, but came up short in doubleheader matches on Saturday at the Lamar Cardinal Classic. The Mountain Hawks fall to 0-3 on the young season.
      In the match against Texas Pan-American (1-2), Lehigh made a remarkable comeback, but fell short at the end. After dropping the first two games (30-21, 30-22), Lehigh rallied to win the next two (31-29, 30-28). The comeback ran out of steam in the decisive fifth game, as UTPA prevailed 15-10. Senior co-captain Jeanette Singleton led the way for the Mountain Hawks with an impressive 18 kills along with 10 digs. Lehigh’s other co-captain, senior libero Jill Kober, did her part as well, coming up with 25 digs on the night. Jaclyn Muszynski had 26 kills in the victory for UTPA.
      In the first match, Lehigh dropped the first game 30-15, but kept it close the rest of the way, falling by just two points (30-28, 30-28) in each of the last two games. Sophomore middle blocker Rebecca Gawronski led the Mountain Hawks with 9 kills and 9 blocks. Singleton chipped in with 8 kills as well to go along with 9 digs.
      Three Lamar players reached double digits in kills to help give the Cardinals the victory and run their record to 2-0 on the season.
