ALBANY, N.Y. - The Lehigh field hockey team struggled on the back end of its two-game road swing, falling to #23 Albany 9-0 on Sunday. The Great Danes broke open a close 1-0 game with three goals in the final 7:21 of the first half. The Mountain Hawks will now look ahead to a big Patriot League tilt at Bucknell Saturday.
Albany marked Lehigh’s second nationally-ranked foe of the season; the Mountain Hawks faced #6 Penn State exactly one month ago on Sept. 14.
Jessica Longstreth and Liza Morgan paced the Great Danes with two goals apiece.
The Great Danes scored eight of their nine goals in the span of 32:09 midway through the game. Sophomore goalie Sydney Maltinsky-Wilson made 14 saves, stopping six of Albany’s first seven shots on goal to keep Lehigh within a goal until late in the first half.
The Mountain Hawks return to action at Bucknell next Saturday for a 12 p.m. tilt vs. the Bison.
