Mountain Hawks open season with sixth place finish in Lewisburg

LEWISBURG, Pa. – In its opening event of the fall season the Lehigh women’s golf team finished in sixth place at the 15-team Bucknell Fall Invitational which wrapped up Sunday at the Bucknell Golf Course. The Mountain Hawks shot a final round 314 to finish at 945 (320-311-314), 15 strokes behind the team champions from Boston University.
 
Individually, junior Crystal Lee was the Mountain Hawks’ top finisher tying for tenth place after a 232 (78-76-78). Not far behind was senior Chelsea Michalek, who shot 234 (77-78-79) and tied for 15th.
 
Senior Ginette Schapira rebounded from a rough day Saturday with a final round 75, the lowest round of the weekend for any Mountain Hawk, and moved up to tie for 23rd place at 238 (85-78-75).
 
Others who competed for the Mountain Hawks included freshman Tess Jennings, who tied for 31st at 242 (81-79-82) and sophomore Kelly Moylan who shot 246 (84-79-83) and tied for 43rd place.
 
Lehigh also had two players compete as individuals. Freshman Nicole Feierberg finished in 20th place at 236 (84-76-76), while sophomore Melanie Dickens tied for 51st place at 249 (85-82-82).
 
Boston University shot a final round 309 to finish at 930 (317-304-309), edging out Rutgers and Seton Hall by one stroke. Radford and Columbia finished fourth and fifth respectively, in front of the Mountain Hawks.
 
Kristyna Pavlickova of Boston University shot a final round 74 to coast to medalist honors at 220 (75-71-74), eight shots better than three others.
 
The Mountain Hawks will return to action at the Yale Invitational, September 21-23 in New Haven, Conn.
