Lehigh finishes fifth at spring-opening tournament in Florida

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Lehigh men’s golf team shot a final-round 298 to move into fifth place on the final day of the St. John’s Spring Fling at the Mission Inn Resort. The Mountain Hawks finished with a 54-hole score of 908 (309, 301, 298) to move into fifth place. Lehigh finished 23 shots behind Stetson, who won the team title with score of 885 (297, 295, 293).
 
Individually, Lehigh was led by senior Duncan Zeiders who tied for ninth overall after shooting 223 (73, 74, 76). The Mountain Hawks’ low round on Sunday came from sophomore Sean Keller who shot a one over par 73 to finish in a tie for 38th at 233 (81, 79, 73). Freshman Andrew Arnold also tied for 38th at 233 (86, 73, 74).
 
Junior captain Doug Marcincin tied for 19th at 228 (77, 76, 75), while senior captain Dwight D’Iorio tied for 45th with a score of 235 (78, 78, 79).
 
Two other Mountain Hawks, junior Tim Rosenhouse and freshman Alex DiClemente, competed as individuals. DiClemente tied for 23rd at 229 (80, 74, 75), while Rosenhouse shot 232 (79, 78, 75) to tie for 35th.
 
Stetson’s Sam Ryder earned medalist honors by shooting a four under par 212 (72, 70, 70), three shots better than Charles Cote of Laval.
 
In the team race, Stetson finished three shots better than IPFW (888), followed by Laval (898), Appalachian State (906) and then Lehigh.
The Mountain Hawks will return to the links at the Lafayette Invitational, April 9-10 in Center Valley, Pa.
