BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh finished up action at the Lehigh Fall Championships on Sunday, the second of two home events hosted by the Mountain Hawks this fall. With heavy winds wreaking havoc on Saturday play, much of the action was forced inside with a heavy emphasis on doubles play. Lehigh head coach Dave Shook juggled his doubles lineup with profitable results as the Mountain Hawks posted a 17-2 doubles mark on the weekend.
The Lehigh fall championships began Friday inside the Lewis Tennis Center as Lehigh took on Loyola (Md.). The Mountain Hawks captured four of five singles matches with seniors Troy List and Collin Laffey and sophomores Matt Savran and Andrew Krentz all earning wins. The Mountain Hawks also won two best-of-three set doubles matches on Friday, and added five more doubles wins against the Greyhounds on Saturday.
On Saturday, the Mountain Hawks squared off against Delaware and Fordham in doubles action, going 7-1 on the day. Lehigh’s top team of Laffey and List was 2-0 on the day and 4-0 in doubles on the weekend. Shook’s new doubles pairings included senior Cameron Silbert and sophomore Matt Savran and senior Arnaldo Pacheco and freshman Mark Goldberg. Juniors Leland Richardson and Edgars Rauza teamed for a win against Delaware while junior Ryan Krueger and freshman Timur Chernykh picked up a win against Fordham.
Lehigh also played nine singles matches against Delaware, winning three against a tough Fightin’ Blue Hen squad.
The weekend concluded with Lehigh facing off against rival Lafayette. The Mountain Hawks won two-of-three doubles matches with List and Laffey and Silbert and Savran picking up wins. In addition, Krentz and Chernykh won eight-game pro set matches in singles.
For most of the Mountain Hawks, this tournament marked the end of the fall season. List and Laffey will compete next weekend at the ITA Championships in Charlottesville, Va.
