Mountain Hawks wrap-up fall play at ITA regionals

Posted: October 25, 2006

HANOVER, N.H. – Lehigh’s women’s tennis team concluded fall play this past weekend, with senior co-captains Gwen Dwyer and Francesca Murasko-Blank representing the Brown and White at the ITA East Region Championships, hosted by Dartmouth at the Boss tennis center. The event was the final tune-up for the Mountain Hawk players before they begin preparations for the spring season.

Playing against top competition, Dwyer and Murasko-Blank both experienced short stays in New Hampshire. In singles play, Dwyer received a first round bye, then fell to Paulina Rys of Fairfield 6-4, 6-1. In doubles action, Dwyer and Murasko-Blank battled XX of Long Island, but fell 8-5.

When the event was finally completed on Tuesday, the team of Megan Moulton-Levy and Katarina Zoricic of William and Mary claimed the doubles title. Harvard teammates Beier Ko and Lena Litvak advanced to the singles final, but with both players advancing to Nationals, the final was not contested.

The ITA Regional marked the end of a successful fall season for Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks placed second at the ECAC Championships, competed at the Cornell Invitational and hosted Towson and Southern Miss in the Lehigh Invitational. Four different Mountain Hawks recorded three singles wins during the fall: Dwyer, Murasko-Blank and sophomores Ariela Cohen and Victoria Vityuk. In doubles, Vityuk teamed with freshman Julie Arthofer to become Lehigh’s most successful team, going 4-1 as a tandem and winning the doubles title at the ECAC Championships.

The Mountain Hawks kick off the spring season with a tri-meet against Towson and Temple inside the Lewis Tennis Center on  February 4.
