Lehigh competes in Carolina, braces for next race

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh Mountain Hawks kicked off their spring season this past weekend at the Carolina Invitational on Lake Wheeler in Raleigh, North Carolina.  The Mountain Hawks competed in 10 events including the Men’s and Women’s Varsity 8, Men’s and Women’s Varsity 4, Men’s and Women’s 2-, Men’s Novice 8, Women’s Lightweight 4 and Men’s and Women’s Novice 4’s.

 

On the women’s side, the varsity 8 took first place with a time of 6:42, almost 30 seconds faster than the second place finisher, Penn State, who finished in 7:11.  The Mountain Hawks also placed first in the women’s pair with a time of 8:29, the women’s lightweight 4 with a time of 7:39 and the women’s varsity 4 with a time of 7:20.  The women’s novice 4 took second with a time of 8:22 and the women’s varsity four ‘B’ also finished second with a time of 7:23, only three seconds behind Lehigh’s ‘A’ crew.

 

The men’s varsity 8 placed third behind Penn State and UNC ‘A’ with a time of 6:28.  The men’s varsity four finished with a time of 6:50 and men’s novice 8 with a time of 6:56, good for second in their respective events.  The men’s novice 4 ‘A’ was able to secure third with a time of 7:22 while the men’s novice 4 ‘B’ placed fourth with a time of 7:47.  In a close race, the men’s pair ended up fourth with a time of 7:34, only one second behind third place finisher, Penn State. 

 

Lehigh’s next race will take place this coming Saturday, March 20th when the Mountain Hawks travel to Philadelphia to take on Drexel and Villanova on the Schuylkill River.  Racing begins at 9:30 am and the last event is scheduled for 11:20 am.  For a complete schedule with lane assignments as well as the team itinerary for the day, please click on the links above.
