ALENTOWN, Pa. – Lehigh enjoyed a successful day at home on the Lehigh River on Saturday as five Mountain Hawk crews earned first place finishes in their respective races versus Iona and Franklin & Marshall.  The women’s varsity 8, varsity 4 and freshman 8 along with the men’s varsity 8 and freshman 8 all crossed first on a day that featured very high winds.

The women’s varsity 8 crew cruised to a first place finish in a time of 6:53.0, while the JV8 placed second in the same race.  In the varsity 4 race, the Mountain Hawks crossed in 6:15.1, which topped Iona, while in the freshman 8 race Lehigh finished in a time of 7:33.1, which was 16 seconds faster than second place Iona.  Lehigh had two entries in the freshman 4 event where the Mountain Hawks second crew placed second in 9:31.7.

On the men’s side, the varsity 8 defeated Iona by ten seconds to claim first place, while the second freshman 4 won its race in 6:42.5 with the first freshman 4 crossing second in 6:52.6.  In the varsity 4 event the Mountain Hawks first crew was four seconds faster than the second crew.

Lehigh’s varsity 8 crews will race on Sunday in Virginia at the Occoquan Sprints.  The entire Mountain Hawks crew returns to action on Friday, April 10 at the Knecht Cup.
