Lehigh defeats Lafayette to retain River Cup

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Lehigh hosted the annual River Cup versus Lafayette on Saturday afternoon at the Steiner/Steinberg Boathouse, with guests Penn State and Franklin and Marshall also taking part in the event.  The Mountain Hawks once again defeated the archrival Leopards to retain the River Cup.  Highlights of the day included both the men’s and women’s varsity eights winning their respective races, as the men crossed in a time of 5:15.23, well in front of Lafayette (5:35.01), while the women finished in 6:05.30 to defeat the Leopards.  Other winning crews on the women’s side were the lightweight eight and the freshman/novice eight.  On the men’s side, the varsity four, lightweight four, and the freshman/novice eight all won their respective races.

 

In the men’s freshman/novice eight race, Lehigh A crossed in a time of 5:44.59 to defeat Lehigh B (5:58.65), Lafayette (6:06.09) and Penn State (6:49.65), while in the men’s lightweight four, the Mountain Hawks earned a first place finish with a time of 6:21.65 to defeat Lafayette and Penn State.  With a time of 5:47.58, the men’s varsity four bested Penn State (5:59.07) and Lafayette (6:14.45).

 

The women’s freshman/novice eight won its race with a time of 6:32.81 to defeat Lafayette A (6:43.00), Lafayette B (7:09.42) and Penn State (8:32.57), while the women’s lightweight eight cruised past Penn State, crossing in a time of 6:33.16, well in front of the Nittany Lions (6:49.35). 

 

Lehigh is back in action on Sunday, April 27 when the Mountain Hawks head to Camden, New Jersey to compete in the 2008 Patriot League Championships on the Cooper River.
