Mountain Hawks compete in 2008 Knecht Cup

CAMDEN, N.J. – Lehigh entered 11 crews in the Knecht Cup this past weekend on the Cooper River, and eight of the Mountain Hawks crews advanced to the semifinals.  The men’s varsity eight placed fourth in Sunday’s grand finals as they crossed in a time of 5:52.5, just two-tenths of a second out of third place, while the men’s freshmen/novice eight also advanced to the grand finals where they too took fourth place, finishing in 6:16.4.  The women’s lightweight crew finished second in the petite final and eighth overall placing in front of Buffalo, Temple, Duquesne and Penn State.

 

The women’s varsity eight crossed in a time of 6:55.6 to win its third level final as it finished in front of Villanova, Temple, Tulsa, Boston College and West Virginia.  That crew opened competition with a fourth place finish in the opening heat.  Other crews that competed on the women’s side were the varsity four which finished fourth in the third level final in a time of 8:17.1.  That crew took third in its respective opening heat with a time of 8:27.3.  The women’s freshmen/novice four placed second in the third level final with a time of 8:50.4 after taking second in their opening heat, crossing in a time of 8:38.6.  The women’s varsity pair finished fifth in its heat and the second varsity eight placed sixth in its first heat. 

 

The men’s second varsity eight finished fifth in their opening heat, and the varsity four completed its opening heat in a time of 7:50.1

 

Lehigh is back on the water on Saturday, April 19 when the Mountain Hawks host the annual River Cup at the Steiner/Steinberg Boathouse in Allentown.  Action gets underway at 10:00 AM as the Brown and White takes on archrival Lafayette as well as in-state foe Penn State on the Lehigh River.
