BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Former Lehigh student-athlete, Sekou Yansane ‘09, was named a winner of the 2009 Academic Momentum Award through the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS) in its partnership with Scholar Baller. Yansane was one of three winners from the Mid-Atlantic region which produced 17 nominees from 11 different universities. The criteria for the award include being either a sophomore, junior or senior who has shown improvement in their classroom performance.
A sociology major, Yansane was named to the 2008 Patriot League Football Academic Honor Roll with a fall 2008 semester GPA of 3.57. A native of Maryland, Yansane was a two-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and he also added Dean’s List distinction in his final semester at Lehigh.
Yansane was an outstanding wide receiver for the Mountain Hawks during his tenure. As a senior, he led the Mountain Hawks in receiving yards for the second consecutive year with 724. He scored four touchdowns over the span of 10 games, the second most on the team. As a junior, Yansane led the team in receiving yards with 513, scoring two touchdowns on the season. His sophomore season, Yansane appeared in nine games and caught nine passes for 186 yards including a 42-yarder against Fordham.
