Body Compositions Available by appointment at Fitness Center Office
- What is Body Composition?
- Body Composition is the percentage of fat in your body. Until now, your absolute weight had determined whether or not you were considered overweight or obese. Too much body fat has been linked to conditions such as high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and other disabling conditions.
- Methods
- Tanita - Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis $5.00
- The Tanita Monitor/Scale uses the BIA (Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis) technique. In this method, a safe low level electrical signal is passed through the body. The signal used is very low, making it safe and imperceptible. It is difficult for the signal to flow through fat in the human body, but easy to flow through the moisture in the muscle and other body tissues. The amount of fat in the body can be accurately estimated by measuring the impedance. A computerized printout lets you take home your results.
- Pre-testing requirements:
- Wait at least 3 hours after rising, eating a heavy meal or exercise before you take a reading. No caffeine and alcohol consumption for several hours before testing. Diuretics and other medications can affect you hydration levels, which in turn give an inaccurate reading. Only shoes and socks need to be removed for this procedure.
- Only shoes and socks need to be removed for this procedure.
- You will receive a computerized print and have the opportunity to discuss this with the Director for guidance.
- Skin fold Assessment - $10.00
- Research has documented that a relationship exists between the fat located in the area beneath the skin and internal fat and body density. A caliper measures the thickness of the skin over multiple sites. Please wear shoes, socks, shorts, t-shirt, and sports bra is recommended for females.
- Females 5 site analysis - arm, hip, upper back, abdominal, thigh
- Males 7 site analysis - arm, chest, hip, abdominal, mid-axillary, upper back, thigh.
- You will receive a computerized print and have the opportunity to discuss this with the Director for guidance.
