BADMINTON CLUB

The Badminton Club is a new addition at Lehigh, entering its second year. Badminton accommodates both experienced and beginning players, as the club includes players of all skill sets. The club is co-ed and comprised of about 10 regular members, although practices are open to recreational players as well as club members. Practices usually run for 2 hours, 2 nights a week. The team does not compete against other teams yet, but as the club expands it may become more competitive.

BASEBALL CLUB

The club baseball team is set up for students who want to play competitive baseball without the time commitments of varsity. We play both during the fall and spring. Games consist primarily of doubleheaders on weekends and practices run one-two times a week. Tryouts occur at the beginning of each semester.

MEN'S BASKETBALL CLUB

Please contact club president for more information.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CLUB

Entering its third year as an official club sport at Lehigh, the Women’s Club Basketball team has had a short history, but lots of success. Over the past two years, the team has posted an overall winning record, traveling to tournaments at Georgetown, University of Pennsylvania, and Drexel, competing against both Patriot League and other D1 and east coast club teams such as Penn State, Georgetown, Villanova, and St. Josephs University. With a season that spans the duration of the fall and spring semesters, the team aims to attend five or six different tournaments per year, one of which is hosted by Lehigh.

The Women’s Club Basketball team looks to recruit members who have played competitively in high school and are looking to continue to do so in college, without the severity of a D1 schedule. Practices are held twice a week, with intercollegiate league games or tournaments on the weekends. Members are also encouraged to play pick-up in Taylor gym during the week.

While the club team is student run, the board works in liaison with the team advisor, who is an easily accessible professor on campus. Club dues are collected at the beginning of the fall season to cover costs of uniforms, transportation, tournament and league entrance fees, hospitality…etc. However, the team can coordinate fundraisers should the need arise.

The team is open to both graduate and undergraduate students who want to work hard, be committed, and have fun playing a sport they love. (Tryouts and cuts will depend on the numbers in attendance.) The Women’s Club Basketball team provides a great balance and outlet for those who want to pursue their education and also have the opportunity to compete. Looking forward to having you come out for the 2010-2011 season!

CHEERLEADING

The LU Cheerleaders are a very visable group on campus. They cheer for football in the fall, as well as the Men's and Women's baskeball teams in the winder. They are also involbed in promoting many university events (including the C.O.A.C.H. program and Lehigh University's Relay for Life) and represent the spirit of the student body.

CYCLING CLUB

The Lehigh Cycling team competes in both mountain biking in the fall and road biking in the spring. The club competes in the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference or the ECCC.
Lehigh University boasts a wide variety of mountain biking trails, including a six mile cross country trail, a short track trail and multiple downhill courses. Members are encouraged to help build and maintain the extensive network of trails. The club also hosts the two day Mountain Top Classic race on campus. During which approximately one hundred and seventy five mountain bikers compete from all over the east coast.
Weekly meetings are held at Ulrich Student Center from 7:00PM-8:00PM. The meetings are held in a very relaxed format, during which students can sign up for upcoming races, which are held all over the east coast. Race fees, gas, and hotels are all subsidized by the club. A $25 fee is required to join. Members will receive a 20% discount from local Cutters bike shop and will be included in any sponsorship deals the club receives for each year.
Anyone who has ridden a bike before is welcome to try out the sport by borrowing a bike. Purchasing a bike will be necessary after a few introductory rides. Group rides for both mountain and road are held on a weekly basis throughout the year. Downhill riders can rent bikes during trips to Diablo Mountain Biking Park in Vernon, New Jersey and Blue Mountain.
The cycling team does have a "Club house" or a place to keep your bike and a large variety of common biking tools. Members will be given a key and will be allowed to visit the shed whenever they want.

DANCE TEAM CLUB

Lehigh’s Dance Team is a hip-hop styled group who perform at a wide variety of athletic and student events throughout the whole year. One of the unique aspects of the LU Dance Team is that the members of our team have a variety of backgrounds: some are highly trained technical dancers from a young age, others have never formally dances before, some have been gymnasts, and other come from cheering or pom squads. Regardless, the common thread between all of the members on the team is a passion for dancing that shined through at every performance.
The team’s size is typically around 18 members. We are completely student run, creating and performing our own original choreography – positions include a Captain, dual c0-captains, treasurer, and fundraising chair. Through practices, performances, road-trips to competition and fundraising events, the members of the dance team often form bonds that extend past the rehearsal time. IN order to cover costs of costumes, travel, and competition fees, the team relies on a combination of Lehigh assistance, fundraising, and dues.
We begin practice in early September, and run a busy schedule through late April, typically with practices four times a week. We perform at home basketball games, wrestling matches, football games, talent shows, and charity events at the university. For the past three years, we have competed and placed at competitions such as NYCDA and UDA. Auditions this year will be held on Thursday, September 2nd.

EQUESTRIAN CLUB

The Lehigh Equestrian Team (LUET) is a community interested in providing an educational, competitive and fun atmosphere for any individual who is interested in horseback riding. LUET is recognized as a university club sport and is therefore student-run and student funded. Every member, including our coach, Marissa Kalmar, is dedicated to making this team the best that it can be, both in and out of the show ring.

We are a member of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) and compete in Region 4 of Zone 3. We have one of the largest and most competitive regions in the country. Other schools that we compete against include Bloomsburg University, East Stroudsburg University, Kutztown University, Lafayette College, Penn State University, Rutgers University, University of Scranton, and several others. LUET competes at ten seasonal shows each year, and qualified riders are eligible to compete in Regional, Zone, and, eventually, National Finals. The IHSA has divisions for all levels of riders who wish to compete, from walk-trot to three-foot fence classes. Riders from our team have been sent to Regionals and Zones for the past seven years and Nationals for the past six years. Our team is split between A-Members and B-Members (which will be determined at evaluations, but don’t worry, everyone will have a chance to ride!). The A-Team members are required to compete in the IHSA competitions, as well as take lessons twice a week and attend a team practice that will be held before every show. B-Members are required to lesson only once a week and attend team practice.

However, if competition is not for you at all, we also provide a club alternative regardless of your riding ability or experience. Club members have the flexibility of choosing which LUET events to participate in while also providing support for their fellow members. Events include the annual horse show hosted by Lehigh, other competitions, fundraisers, and other social activities. Club members also have the choice of taking lessons on a weekly basis. If you are unsure of the time commitment that the team requires, then perhaps our club alternative is for you (You can always change your mind after trying it for a semester). Overall, we are looking for anyone who we can share our passion with for both horses and the sport!

FENCING CLUB

With Lehigh's NCAA Div. 1 team a thing of the past, Lehigh University's Fencing Club has fought to keep fencing's place in the Lehigh community. The Fencing Club is open to all students regardless of past experience and is focused on teaching and enjoying the sport, catering to both competitive and noncompetitive members. A USFA club team, members choosing to compete can take part in all events the Philadelphia area has to offer including prestigious tournaments such as Temple Open. A club run completely by students, Lehigh Fencing survives through the interest of the student body. The club has graduated many of the fencers who lead the club to its 2nd place finish in Men's Epee at the 2008 U.S. Association of Collegiate Fencing Clubs National Championship and is currently trying to rebuild and inspire interest in the sport around Lehigh's campus. The club meets two to three times a week with most competitions during the weekend for those who choose to compete. The club is co-ed and is currently epee and saber focused though teams change depending on membership. Based on equipment needs and tournament fees, among other costs, the club does require dues be paid, and actively fund-raises on campus to supplement the funds it receives from the university.

FIELD HOCKEY CLUB

Club Field Hockey is an active member of the National Field Hockey League (NFHL).  This team is competitive—we practice twice weekly in the fall, and play about 10 games in the semester, both home and away. No experience is necessary, but most people have played in high school. Practices are conducted in the evenings on artificial turf. Games are only on weekends. There is a fall tournament in Maryland which we attend each year, and we stay overnight in a hotel. We are only active during the fall semester, but with enough interest we will attend a spring tournament in Maryland.

The team currently consists of about 30 female students, but the team is co-ed and males are encouraged to play. Members often become very close, and remain friends even when out-of-season.

We run our own practices by electing two captains to be in charge, but any input/feedback from team members is always a positive. The other executive positions include President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.  In order to cover the cost of travel, hotels, referees, and uniforms, the team receives funding from the University, fundraising, and dues.

We are a relatively new team, but we have a lot of talent, and are hoping to qualify for the league’s championship tournament this year.

MEN'S FRISBEE CLUB

Lehigh Ultimate was founded in 1975 and is one of the oldest collegiate ultimate teams in the country. With a history of going to nationals in the past, as well as hosting college nationals, the tradition lives on today.

Currently, Lehigh Ultimate consists of an A team, a traveling B team, and a practice B team. We practice four times a week for the entire year (usually 4pm to 7pm Monday through Thursday). Traditionally, each team attends 3-4 two day tournaments per academic semester. Lehigh Ultimate is part of the USA Ultimate organization and competes in college and club tournaments throughout the country. Our section consists of eastern Pennsylvania schools, but the A team travels as far as North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Rhode Island and everywhere in between to seek out competition to help our team improve and get our name out there. In the spring of 2010, Lehigh Ultimate qualified for the first official year of Division III Nationals in Appleton, Wisconsin where we finished tied for 5th.

We welcome all players, experienced and inexperienced, and graduate students as there is 5 years of USA Ultimate eligibility.

WOMEN'S FRISBEE CLUB

This year will be the first official year for Women’s Ultimate Frisbee. In the past, the women have played with the men’s team and occasionally played in women’s tournaments. This year, we will become more independent from the men’s team and will travel to a few tournaments in the area each semester. Practices will be run with the men’s team and focus on learning the basics of the game. Most of the people that join Ultimate Frisbee have little or no experience. We encourage people to join if they are looking for a fun way to meet new people. We can’t wait for our first season!

GYMNASTICS CLUB

Lehigh’s group is simply a collection of men and women who "love and appreciate the chance to go to the gym," according to Tina Stegura, previous president of the squad. "Practice and having fun" are of utmost importance to them, leaving the varying skill and experience levels of the participants as a minor concern. The gymnastics club provides a great opportunity to continue ones passion for the sport, develop a new one, or even just to have a few hours a week to take a break from studying and bounce around the gym.

MEN'S LACROSSE CLUB

Please contact club president for more information.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE CLUB

The Women's Club Lacrosse team is a great group of girls who enjoy a competitive environment while still having a lot of fun. We practice twice a week in the fall and the spring, and although the majority of our games are played in the spring, we have some fall ball games. Club Lacrosse is a great way to meet people and play a sport you love, while being at a more relaxed level than varsity. No previous experience is required, but most of the girls have played at the varsity level in high school. We have a great time going on road trips to other schools for away games, and just hanging out together. Come join us for some fun!

PING PONG CLUB

Please contact club president for more information.

ROLLER HOCKEY CLUB

The roller hockey club is for people wanting to have a good time. Roller hockey, a relatively unknown sport among Lehigh students just a few years ago, has been continually gaining steam and prestige. We all are competitive and want to win, but we play hockey because we enjoy it. We are highly competitive, but with two teams (depending on number of players) there's an ample fit for most. We have had two teams in the past, Tier I and Tier II. However, this season we only had one with a few practice players as well. Each team consists of approximately 10 skaters and a goalie. Both teams practice together one day a week (this past season, Tuesday 8-10 at a skating rink 10 minutes from campus in Whitehall, PA). We are hoping to have 2 teams this year with the Tier II playing in the PCRHL and Tier I in the ECRHA.

We have been playing in the Philadelphia Collegiate Roller Hockey League (PCRHL) since we began. We play against other regional universities including Villanova, St. Joes, UPenn, Drexel, and others. The PCRHL consists of games on Sundays (normally one, but sometimes two) at Marple Sports Arena in Broomall, PA. Each week we go there and play a different college.

We are going to be joining the ECRHA (Eastern Collegiate Roller Hockey Association) this season. The ECRHA is part of the national collegiate roller hockey association, the NCRHA. In the new league, we would also play other colleges, some the same and some different. The league begins around mid-October and goes until April. We would play 6 weekends out of the year and they would be more tournament style (playing 3 games per weekend).

We are a student run organization, and we run our own practices and coach our own games. When everybody is willing to work hard, we all have tons of fun. In order to cover the costs, the team receives funding from the University, fundraising, and dues. Without the option of a varsity commitment, the roller hockey club team is a great option.

MEN'S RUGBY CLUB

"The only trophy we won this day was the blood and sweat we left on the pitch… and it was enough."

Rugby combines the beauty of soccer with the hard-nosed, physical nature of football into one amazing game. It takes intelligence, guts, and a high level of fitness to be a rugby player. There are fifteen players to a side, ranging in size and skill from the bigger, stronger forwards to the smaller, more agile backs. Each position has a unique role in determining the outcome of the game.

The Lehigh University Rugby Football Club prides itself on being one of the most competitive club teams on campus. We hold tryouts in the beginning of the fall semester to select our A-side team, which competes in the Eastern Pennsylvania Rugby Union - a subdivision of the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Football Union and USA Rugby. We also field a developmental B-side for new players to gain experience in a less intense atmosphere.

The spring semester is a great time to learn the game. We practice indoors during the cold months, focusing on the fundamentals and developing team continuity. We also train to improve individual strength, speed and endurance. As the weather improves, we resume outdoor practice in preparation for tournaments and friendly matches.

Keeping with rugby tradition, we are a tight-knit group that always has a good time. We maintain close ties with alumni, many of whom now play for their local club teams. New members are always welcomed to join and are encouraged to embrace rugby as a unique learning experience. It may take one several years to fully grasp certain concepts of the game, but getting there is half the fun.

WOMEN'S RUGBY CLUB

The dedicated girls on the Lehigh University Women’s Club Rugby Football Club (LUWRFC) have been determined to improve their program every year. The team was founded in 1994 and has quickly become a competitive team in the area. These girls have gone to Eastern Pennsylvania Rugby Union (EPRU) Playoffs for the past three consecutive
years, despite the fact that many of the new players did not have the opportunity to play rugby in high school. Together, the coach, veterans, and rookies go over the game and its rules during the first couple weeks of practice and then advance to more complicated drills. The team also elects a member to go through training in order to be a certified coach.

In order to keep the team organized, LUWRFC has five different leadership positions. The President oversees the team, paperwork, and practices, and she works directly with EPRU. The Vice President aids the President with these tasks. The match secretary contacts teams, schedules games, and ensures referees are notified. The treasurer handles funds and dues. This year, the girls created a new position called Alumni Chair in order to keep in contact with past team members.

These girls have also extended their rugby careers outside of Lehigh. Girls have gone to clinics sponsored by the Philadelphia Women’s Rugby FC. Numerous team members have also tried out for the prestigious Mid-Atlantic Rugby Football Union’s Women’s All-Star Team, and alumni have continued to play after graduating. Alumni are currently playing in different locations, including the Philadelphia area and New York.

The girls of the LUWRFC are dedicated, are driven, and have fun. They love the sport and work hard to improve the team as a whole and themselves as individual players. They compete in both the fall and spring semesters. They end the spring season with the annual Prom Dress Rugby tournament, in which teams dress in ‘80’s prom dresses and end the year with laughs, good rugby, and fun.

RUNNING CLUB

Lehigh University Running Club is a student run organization providing male and female students an opportunity to meet new people, stay in shape, and compete in taces. This club will meet 3 times a week in front of Taylor gym for organized runs, there will also be informal runs throughout the week for those looking to meet more often. The goals of this club are to improve fitness and continue to run but also compete in 3 races a semester, including but not limited to the Paul Short Run and the Turkey Trot.  The Paul Short Tun which takes place on Goodman campus in early October provides club members an opportunity to compete against varsity athletes from around the country. This club receives funding from the University and collects dues annually.

SKI CLUB

The Ski Team is an active member of the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA). This team is a racing team, but a ski racing background is not necessary. Whether you have raced all through your life, or just want to try racing, everyone is welcome. If you have never skied before, this team might be a bit advanced.
During the season from early January until mid March the ski team has optional practices twice a week at Camelback Mountain in the Poconos. In addition to practices, the team competes five weekends throughout the season on both Saturdays and Sundays. The mountain at which the races occur vary by weekend, including Hunter Mountain and Wyndham Mountain in the Catskills, Mountain Creek in New Jersey, and Blue Mountain in the Poconos. The team is affiliated with the Metro Conference and races against a variety of teams including Fairfield, UPenn, Lafayette, Rutgers, Princeton, Columbia, and Scranton.
The team is co-ed and is made up of about 30 Lehigh students. Although there is only one team, men and women race compete against their respective genders. Both teams have created their mark on the region thought the years. The men's team has competed in Regionals the past 11 years, and has qualified for Nationals for the past 6 years. The women have competed in Regionals for the past 5 years, and have qualified and competed in Nationals for the past 2 years. This making it the 2nd year in a row that Lehigh's men and women have qualified for Nationals.
The team is completely student run and led which results in a very comfortable atmosphere among team members. The executive positions are student elected consisting of a President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. Due to the concentrated season, team members grow close with each other and bond over their commonalities. In order to cover the cost of lift tickets, lodging, travel, and races the team receives funding from the University, alumni donations, fundraising, and dues.

MEN'S SOCCER CLUB

Lehigh Men’s Club Soccer is one of the most prestigious, sought-after club sports at the University. Every fall, about 100 students tryout for a 25 to 30 man roster. In previous years, players that were on the team did not have to tryout again, but this rule has been removed in hopes to recruit the most talented and committed team for each ensuing season.

The fall semester is our main season. After tryouts during the first weeks of school, the team practices 2-3 days a week and plays games every weekend. We currently have a 15-game schedule not including the Regional Tournament. This is the centerpiece of the season, where 32 teams compete for a place in nationals.

Our league includes Temple, Kutztown, Lafayette, West Chester, Villanova, Lasalle, TCNJ, St. Joseph’s, Haverford, UPenn, and USP. We also play in a Penn State tournament every year and look forward to playing in a Binghamton tournament this upcoming season. Some non-league games we have played in the past include Delaware, Cornell, Navy, Army, and many more.

During the winter we practice indoors twice a week and hope to play in an indoor Allentown league. We have played in this league in years past and find that it gets us ready for the spring season.

The spring season is more relaxed than the fall, but we still practice 2-3 times a week and play games almost every weekend.

We have high hopes for the upcoming 2010-2011 season and look to build a team around group play rather than individual skill. We ended last season playing good soccer versus quality teams such as Penn State, and we look forward to building from last season. Players trying out should have many years experience and be fully committed to the team by making all practices and games.

WOMEN'S SOCCER CLUB

The Lehigh Women’s Club Soccer team is a competitive club, holding tryouts early in the fall semester. Most girls have either played varsity level in high school or on club teams. The team practices at least two days a week with games on the weekends. Commitment to games and practices are required, but we understand occasional absences due to school work.
We play mostly home games, competing against teams such as Lafayette, The College of New Jersey, West Chester, UPenn and many others. While we do not compete in Regional’s, we still pride ourselves on our successful seasons. The club is a perfect alternative for students that wish to continue playing soccer, but are worried about the level of play or time commitment of a Division I varsity team.
The girls are a team on and off the field. Whether participating in the annual Turkey Trot, holding pasta dinners, or dressing up for Halloween games; a fun and friendly atmosphere is one of our main priorities.

SQUASH CLUB

The Squash Club is a recently founded club (fall semester 2009) which consists of 12 players who play competitive squash vs. other universities. We are part of the College Squash Association (CSA). We practice 3 days per week when we are off season. Our season goes from mid fall semester to mid spring semester. Our official matches are usually scheduled on Saturdays so that we can practice during the week and compete during the weekends. Last season we played 11 official matches vs. several universities such as Bard (varsity team), Siena, Swarthmore, Lafayette , Colgate , Bucknell , US Naval Academy (varsity team) and Drexel; 4 matches were played at Lehigh. The players have improved their squash skills since the first day of practice. We value greatly every player’s comments so that the team can get better with every practice. The team started the season strong with a 4-1 record; but we could not finish our season as strong as we started it. The past year we have learned how great the college squash experience is and are looking forward to our next season, with a stronger and more unified team.

SWIMMING CLUB

LU Club Swimming offers students an opportunity to stay in shape, participate, and compete, with other students with similar interests in swimming. Open to the Lehigh student body, we welcome people of all ability levels for the chance to swim together with optional competitions in school as well as with the American Swimming Association University League.

TAE KWON DO CLUB

The Lehigh Tae Kwon Do fight team is a club team representing Lehigh University. We are a unique team in that we train off campus at Lehigh Valley Tae Kwon Do, located right behind Pantry One. We have fight training twice a week in addition to regular practice in Tae Kwon Do. As a team we participate in four competitions (two in the fall and two in the spring). In the past we have been very successful in these tournaments taking gold at one last semester. We highly encourage anyone interested to come to a practice and see what it is like. There are no cuts and we are looking to expand out team.

TENNIS CLUB

The Lehigh Club Tennis Team is a unique and fun way to compete while also having an easy-going way to enjoy the sport. Our schedule includes multiple tournaments and other matches allowing for our team to come together, travel, and develop new relationships.
The Club Tennis Team is one of the few co-ed teams that compete together. With a combination of numerous talents from both the girls and the guys side, the Lehigh team consistently competes along side the top of the other Middle States sectional teams. Last year the team traveled to Flushing Meadows, New York to compete in a sectionals tournament on the courts of the U.S. Open. A year before that the team was flown out to Arizona to compete in a national tournament for an entire three-day weekend. "Playing in Flushing Meadows and staying over in New York with the team was an amazing time and I came out of it with many more positive relationships and experiences," said Co-Captain, Ben Bar-David.
In Club tennis, the students govern and run the entire schedule and season. This allows for the team to elect their own officers, schedule their own practices, and work at their own pace. Club tennis is one of the perfect opportunities for individuals to compete for themselves as well as the team.
The dynamic of the Club tennis team has always been superb and allows for a laid back, fun approach towards both practices and games.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL CLUB

The Men’s Volleyball Club has a relatively long history at Lehigh, leading to a club with good organization and a tradition of excellence. The club typically holds a strong membership of roughly twenty active members after the initial fall tryouts. Competing in the MACVC, the team travels to other schools near and far, competes in tournaments, and frequently participates in postseason playoffs.
While intercollegiate competition is largely concentrated in the spring semester, typically from February through March, volleyball is a year round involvement. We practice twice a week during both semesters, honing our skills in the fall for competition in the spring. During the busy spring season we play one to three matches a week on average both home and away. Our opponents include DeSales, Kutztown, LCCC, Rowan University, our bitter rivals at Lafayette, and numerous other universities.
Although competition is certainly a central part of any club sport, it is not the only focus of the Men’s Volleyball team. Despite being a competitive team, our team keeps fun a priority through occasional relaxed practices and by spending time together off the court, from simple meetings as friends to sponsored team-building events.
The club is completely self-reliant, with all of the responsibilities of the team, from coaching to organizing to managing, up to the elected club leaders and general membership. The club leadership consists of a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, who are usually selected based on their involvement during the year. Costs are covered through University funding, alumni donations, fundraising, and dues. We look forward to your involvement!

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL CLUB

The Women’s Volleyball Club is a developing club that is still new to Lehigh Athletics. We are a competitive team that accepts players of all levels of experience. Volleyball season is all year round and we hold practices once or twice a week. In the past year we have played against many different schools, including Lafayette. We plan on extending our reach to other schools and participating in many more tournaments to develop a fierce reputation as a new club. Our team is run by students, so we have a fun and easygoing attitude at practice. We are very open to new ideas and drills that may help us improve as a team. To cover the costs of travel and tournament fees, we receive funding from the University and we collect dues.

WATER POLO CLUB

Please contact club president for more information.

WEIGHTLIFTING CLUB

Please contact club president for more information.

WRESTLING CLUB

Club wrestling is open to anyone from the beginning wrestler to those who were serious in High School. The club meets 3-4 times a week all year long and competes in the NCWA against local Clubs and a few Div III schools. Our goal is to continue having fun and enjoying the sport of wrestling.
