Lehigh Spirit Groups
The Lehigh Student Spirit Committee is comprised of the leaders of the following groups: The Marching 97 (Lehigh’s Marching Band), The Lehigh Pep Band, the Lehigh Dance Team, Lehigh’s Cheerleaders, the ASA (Association of Student Alumni) Spirit Chair, and the students who perform as Clutch, the Lehigh Mountain Hawk mascot. This group meets periodically with a focus on achieving goals of creating the best possible atmosphere and attendance at Lehigh sporting events through their performances and teamwork, as well as engaging the student body in cheers and promotions. This committee is advised by Director of Tickets, Rich Haas.
Marching 97
This year, the Marching 97 celebrates the 97th year of band at Lehigh University. The 97 continues its tradition of excellence complete with its unique brand of march-marchery, sing-singery, leg-liftery. Its distinctive marching style and psyche have caused it to be dubbed "The Finest Band East of All Points West."
A completely student-run organization, all field drills, music preparation, and administrative arrangements are the responsibility of its members. Lehigh Cheerleading
The Lehigh cheerleading squad enthusiastically supports Lehigh's football and basketball squads throughout the season. This year's football co-captains are Caitlyn Heller and Caitlin Kingsley. To learn more about cheering at Lehigh, click here to visit the Lehigh cheerleading web site.
Lehigh Dance Team
The newest addition to the Lehigh student spirit squad, the Lehigh Dance Team performs at most home basketball games at Stabler Arena, as well as select other events, such as football games, wrestling matches, the Lehigh-Lafayette Bonfire, and the First-Year Student Rally. This completely student-run and very popular squad specializes in innovative routines to the latest music at half-time and at timeouts to keep the crowd entertained.
Pep Band
The Lehigh University Pep Band strives to make home games for Lehigh men's and women's basketball games more exciting by adding a musical element to the atmosphere. The Pep Band has also made appearances at Lehigh wrestling, soccer and lacrosse matches. Past and future road trips include, the Northeast Wrestling Duals in Troy, New York as well as Patriot League and NCAA tournament games. The Hawk's Nest
The Hawk's Nest is an organization in the Lehigh Association of Student Alumni that promotes school spirit and enthusiasm at athletics events. All freshmen become members of the Hawk's Nest at the First-Year Student Rally, where they receive their Hawk's Nest t-shirt. The membership fee is $5 annually for upperclassmen, which provides a Hawk's Nest t-shirt, year-long giveaways such as bandanas, beads. and food and beverage, all at select athletics events.
