Mike Caruso may be the finest wrestler ever to attend Lehigh University.  Caruso won three consecutive NCAA wrestling titles, winning his final 50 matches and finishing his career with a collegiate record of 57-1.  He was voted into the National Collegiate Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1991, is a member of the U.S. Amateur Wrestling Hall of Fame, and is a charter member of the Lehigh University Hall of Fame.

Lehigh head women’s basketball coach Sue Troyan has announced two updates to her staff for the upcoming season.  Lauren Hall-Gregory has been promoted to assistant coach, while Gretchen Gregg is the program’s new graduate assistant.  Hall-Gregory has been on staff since 2006, serving as the program’s graduate assistant, while Gregg arrives at Lehigh following a successful career at Cornell University which she capped off with the 2008 Ivy League Championship and berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Rising senior Matt Szalachowski recently earned a spot on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honor Roll, which recognizes collegiate basketball student-athletes who excel in academics.  Szalachowski earned a 3.48 grade point average during the 2008 spring semester and carries a 3.62 overall GPA as an accounting major.  This past season Szalachowski appeared in all 29 games for the Mountain Hawks, starting 28 of them.  He averaged 4.7 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists, while shooting 70 percent from the free throw line.

Lehigh placed eight student-athletes on the 2008 Patriot League Rowing Academic Honor Roll, it was announced on Tuesday.  A total of 92 rowers from around the league were honored, led by Colgate’s Meredith Remmer who was voted the Scholar Athlete of the Year.  Lehigh senior Jackie Cross was one of just eight rowing student-athletes to earn a perfect 4.0 grade point average during the 2008 spring semester.  To be eligible for the honor roll, a student-athlete must obtain a 3.2 grade point average and be awarded a varsity letter.

Lehigh placed a total of 18 student-athletes on the Patriot League’s Academic Honor Roll for men’s and women’s swimming and diving, announced by the league on Tuesday. Senior Calvin John Smiley led the way for the Mountain Hawks, as he was one of 18 student-athletes to earn a 4.0 grade point average in the spring semester. To be eligible for the honor roll, a student-athlete must obtain at least a 3.2 GPA and earn a varsity letter in his or her sport.
